Library FAQ: Library Login Issues

A hub for frequently asked questions regarding Academy of Art University Library resources.

How do I log into my library account?

When logging onto any library resource off-campus (not using AAU building WiFi access), you will see a screen asking for your name and student ID number.

Remember to type in your full name: First name followed by your last name, with a space in-between.

Your Student ID number can be found on your Student ID card.

Why can't I log into my library account?

If you see the following message:

  • Are you a current AAU student?

Make sure that you type in your first and last name as you are registered in LMS.

Make sure that there is a space in between your first and last name.

Make sure that your AAU student ID number is the same as the one printed on your student ID card.

  • Is it before the start of the semester?

Student accounts are activated for currently enrolled AAU students 3 days prior to the start of each semester. If you are having login issues after the semester has started, please reach out to us.

  • Where are you logging in from?

Usually, you should not have any issues logging into AAU Library online resources while connected to AAU WiFi in any AAU campus building. If you are experiencing issues, please reach out to us.

Troubleshooting connection issues

Please reach out to us prepared to answer the following questions. This will help us in our troubleshooting process to determine if we are experiencing a database connection outage:

  1. Have you connected to the library website before this incident? Was it fine before?
  2. Which browser are you using to access the library’s website? On what device (PC, Mac, phone, tablet)? Have you tried another browser to see if that helps?
  3. Where are you geographically located?
  4. Are you able to access the library website via your mobile phone without WiFi?

Try clearing browser cache

Clearing your browser cache in your web browser’s settings may help address issues in some instances. Once you clear your browser cache, close the browser and open it up again to attempt to connect to the library website.

If you are still experiencing issues, please provide us answers to the questions mentioned above along with a screenshot of what you see on screen.

For Alumni: Can I still access AAU Library resources after I graduate?

AAU Library resources are only accessible to currently enrolled students. But alumni can come in-person to the library to browse various resources at the library (no borrowing of physical materials).

For Alumni: I want to find my MFA thesis.

As of 2012, AAU began digitizing all master’s thesis projects. If you need to locate the physical copy, try reaching out to your thesis committee as someone from there may have kept it.

To access your online thesis, you will need to log in with your LMS credentials. Please contact the Online Help Desk ( to request access.
